Thundercat 900

Im looking to upgrade out of my 1994 vmax 600 and found a 1997 Thundercat 900 mountain with 3000 miles on ebay. I dont know much about these tripples and was wondering if anyone had any info good or bad.

I have a '96 t-cat 900 standard configuration.
It is ported, head shaved, clutch kitted (2 set ups-
drag and radar run) It is fast, but gets kicked off the line
by any well set up 500cc and larger. Poor trail
sled, excellent lake sled. Weighs a ton. Sinks like an anchor
off trail. Has marginal suspension travel, but I think the
97 is better, has a couple of extra inches.

I keep mine for a loaner sled. Lack of suspension travel
keeps the speeds down on typical trails. I ride my ZRT 800
which has similar mods. Still heavy and sinky off trail, but rides much better over the bumps. The ZRT with the extra travel and better front end is much more ridable.

Thanks for the information. I dont ride lakes and only ride trails to get back to the powder. I was thinking the extra power would be helpful as Im riding at 9000-12000 feet above sea level but heavy is not helpful. Thanks again

The 97 T Cat is one of the best the 900 has a different stroke some say better some worse? It has the ETT suspension! No it's not light, but wow does it have power!!! Stock was 168HP and cappable of 220!!!

There is a mod you can do to the front suspension on that sled that will give you a 46" stance and 13" of front travel, and except for some spacers and a longer sway bar it uses stock Cat parts. I did it to my '96 ZRT 800. I also added a TSL skid to mine, but yours already has the long travel in the rear. Here are some pics of mine completed.

T-cat is great for drag racing on the lake, but not much else! I love my 2000.
