Oil pump adjustment on 1996 550 Cougar

Hi, I just installed an new crate motor on my sisters 550 Cougar and was wondering if someone could give me the correct procedure to set the oil pump. I am going to premix during the break in to ensure adequate lubrication and check the operation of the oil pump and watch for oil consumption. Any and all input would be greatley appreciated.

There should be a line on the oil pump housing and a line on the oil pump arm. Adjust the cable until the two lines match up. Some sleds have two lines, one at idle and one with the throttle wide open.

Be sure to adjust at wide open, there is no pump change till over 1/4 throtle! make sure to bleed the line to the pump and that it is clamped tight.
Where and why did you get a crate motor?

A bearing on the crank went and punched a hole through the block. All that was saalvageable was one pot and piston, the recoil and electrics. Picked up the motor from a dealer in Northern Wisconsin.
Thanks for the response. Maury
