Low spark?

I bought an 85 jag 440/FC. It doesnt seem to idle well at start up. Before checking carb, i took out the plugs, and they looked good. Put in new plugs and had no spark. They were the same plug. Put the old ones back in, and had spark, but it seemed to be less than i would think it should have. Is there a way to test this, or is there a component that would cause this(coil, etc.) or is it just spark or no spark period. I did drive it for about an hour(end of last year) and above idle it seemed to run well with no hesitation or bogging or any other indication that there may be a spark issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Grab the cable and have someone pull the sled over... If it hurts, you have great spark. Haha! I ground the plug to the engine to test.

Get an inline neon spark tester to check spark. It's THE most reliable way to check.

Perhaps the new plug is bad, it happens, or is gapped to big?

Sometimes the wire endcaps go bad and need to be replaced.
If you loose spark when you change plugs, this might be your problem area.
