1991 Wildcat Voltage Regulator?????

I was driving my sled when the headlight went in to hyper bright mode for a second and then burnt out. The tail light burnt out and the hand warmers started to melt my grips they got so hot. I replaced the bulbs and as soon as I tried to take off they blew again. I'm assuming this has got to be the voltage regulator, what do you guys think? Where the heck is the regulator located on these sleds? It's a '91 Wildcat Mountain Cat EFI. I had a couple dealers tell me the voltage regulator was $201.95, this can't possibly be right! Seems to me it shouldn't be more than $30!
Thanks in advance

Hi,

I have a 1991 EXT, it shares most of the same parts as the 91 wildcat 700. I dont recall seeing EFI in my manual though.

The Voltage regulator should be bolted to chassis just behind the brake assembly on the "outside" side. You should be able to see it when standing on the pull cord side if you look close enough. On the 91 is should be a gray square about 1-1/2" across and about 3/4" thick. The wires run up from behind so you might not see them at first.

Thanks, I'll take a look there. I'm hoping it's the regulator that's the problem.

You're right about the price - Should be in the neighborhood of $30.00. I had exactly the same problem - just got a new Voltage regulator for $29.95. Here's a link that may help you.

Alpha Sports - Arctic Cat Snowmobile Catalog

Follow it to Snowmobiles, then 1991, Then Your model. Instruments and wiring.

Sounds like all the symptoms of the regulator.
