my friend has a 95 zrt 800 and it has no spark, he said using a test light he couldnt get anything coming out if the cdi box. he does want to mess with it and said i could have it for $400. what would should i check for first on the sled? i have found a few cdi boxes on ebay but dont want to buy one if that isnt the problem.

unplug the key switch, the kill switch, and the throttle position switch on the handlebar. THen check for spark, if there is non , then it probably needs a CDI.

i agree with tcat20, i have the exact same sled and got for the exact reason, boss didnt want to mess with it.

jump the black and brown wire coming from your stator and see if you have spark. if you do, its not your stator. most likely it is your stator or ground.

i went and looked at it tonight and its in nice shape, no seat rips, decent track, brand new plastic skis and carbides. he said that when you pull it over the headlight will light up, so i think that would rule out the stator? any more ideas? and also where is a good place to buy used cdi boxes? oh yea he said it quit when he went to pu tit away last year and hasnt had spark since.

The throttle safety switch is the most likely problem

under the pad on the handlebar, there is a small 2 wire plug. disconnect that.

Its the wire that goes to the throttle side of the handlebar and connects to the safety switch. Just unplug it.
Also unplug the kill switch and the key switch to eliminate them as the problem. If the engine starts, plug them back in with it running and when it shuts off, that is the problem. If there is still no spark with them all unplugged, check that there is power before the CDI. If there is, the CDI needs to be replaced.

the easyest way to chec the safty and kill switches is to unplug the big plug from the motor turn it and put the blak and brown wires on both sides together ,saves takeing the dash apart

i disconnected all the switches and it still had no spark. so i plugged them all backl in and it still didnt spark, then all of a sudden it had spark, so i put new plugs in it and it fired up fo ra few seconds and them died. tried to start it and no luck. since then ive got it to start once more for only a few seconds. later i tried it and no spark, so sometimes it has spark other times not, could this be the cdi box?
