Question Prowler gauge condensation

Hey. New to the forums here, nice site .

I just picked up a 1990 Prowler, I know...older sled, but the price was right. Anyways, I'm just goin over it good before the snow flies, and 1 thing I'd like to fix is condensation in my speedometer. It's got the lense kinda discoloured, and the high beam lense is popped out. I pulled the speedometer off the sled, but it seems that it isn't 'user serviceable', as in I can't see any way that it'll come apart.

I'm sure someone has had this problem at some time, what did you do about it? I don't want to buy a new unit, because the $$$ would be better spent on other parts of the sled.

On some of my older road bikes I was able to take it off the bars and stick it in the oven on warm aprox. 180*F for an afternoon that removed the condensate then I sealed as much as I could with silicon mix. If it is like those I've had with plastic lenses that have "yellowed" well Tough tougies. ya may have to live w/ it.

Can't really tell if it's permanently yellowed or not. It would be nice to get it apart and actually wipe it clean, and I'd also like to fix the high beam lense that is laying in by the bulb....

Unfortunately they don't come apart. You may be able to find a used one?

It sounds like you will have to live with it or get creative. Perhaps make a new face or forcefully but gently remove and replace the old

I was thinking about 'getting creative' with a dremel. I think I just might do that...

get creative, ive done it. its not hard. cut it out and cut a new piece of plastic to fit. hard part is cutting a new one to fit without gaps. i used thick CA glue you can get at any hobby shop. fills up small gaps nicely and holds strong and tight.

ive also cut my finger getting 'creative', but i was being cocky and bet i could do the whole job in an hour. take ur time and you could do it

dremel tools rock for getting "creative", should work fine if you dont damage anything else in the process

I've mended cut fingers (etc.) with super glue. Works great (stings like heck at first, but seals a cut for days!)

I'd look on eBay for a used one. Seems like speedo's (at least Cat speedo's) are common, and fairly cheap (@ $20).
