Clutch engagement rpm ????'s

Ok two sleds, one is a 94 EXT 580 l/c
the other is a 96 zr580 efi

The 94 engages at right about 3800 it looks like. While the 96 is closer to 4500.

I noticed the belt on the 96 was really, I mean really loose, barly had to work at it to take it off. So I put on the stock spare belt, now it engages at around 4300.

My question is what are typic stock enagement rpms for these sleds?

Doing some more preseason work on them since we just got em, and wondering if a clutch spring replacement is in the cards as well..

Thanks.

3800 for both of them with brand new belts and prestine clutches, anywhere below 4000 is fine though with a stock clutch. mines set to engage at 4200 on my cat and 5000 on my polaris. changing the big spring in the clutch allows clutch engagement to be changed

A lot of ZR's were set up for racing and had high engagement rpms to get that hole shot. When I got mine, both were engaging well over 5000 rpm, which is great if you are racing, horrible on the trails. I have both of 'em down to around that 4000 mark as well, it's MUCH easier on the trails when you do a lot of stop and go...

tcat,

not to be to sarcastic here, but come on, 99.9% of the questions asked could be answered by going to the dealer. Thanks for the great insight as I never would have thought of that.(sic)

I have ordered the service manual for the sled, but was looking for just a quick answer, but thanks for playing....

From the 1995 manual for my EFI, stock engagement is 3500-3800 for both the EXT and the ZR. The stock engagement for my carb 94 ZR is 4500.

if you call the dealer, i bet he could convince you that u need a new clutch over the phone. thats why people dont call them. forums are usually better cuz they give an opinion that isnt trying to make money. no one here has made money by posting thier ideas.
