Thumbs down 1971 440 Arctic Cat Panther... HELP!!!

Here Goes.... I just got a 71 440 Arctic Cat Panther for free from some Old guy that used to own a Small Engine repair buisness. i know the guy and stop in a few times a year to see what he got... He gave me a snowmobile.. It is in good condition. no rips in the seat, not dents or cracks, track is in good shape. it was garadge kept, untill it was in a flood. needless to say it doesn't run. I have most of the engine torn down and I have found a full Rebuild kit for it, which i am getting. as i was disassembling the engine, i ran into some a fair amount of surface rust and losts of water, I have gotten all the water removed and most of the rust removed. On further inspection I noticed damage to the #2 cylinder and piston. so that is going to need replaced. along with fuel lines, and all the seals and gaskets. I have done some resurch on the net and have been unable to find much of anything except for rebuild kits and pistons. Here is what i got:
Part Number on the side of the snowmobile just under serial :0110-447
Engine: TIA440SI Displacement : 436cc
by: Kawasaki Heavy Industries LTD.
Carb : HD27A

I can't find any parts numbers for anything.. I have found parts numbers for the 73-75 version and i have noticed there is very little diffrence (if any) between these years and mine. The engine parts diagrams for the same make and model 73-75 look the same as the parts that I have... although i am not sure if they are the same...

The parts number for a 1973-1975 are (1) #3000-233 and (2) #3000-232
Ref : Alpha Sports - Arctic Cat Snowmobile Catalog

Can anyone tell me if all or most of these parts are interchageable between years and if i can use these parts on a 1971? They all have pretty much the same parts numbers for the engines

Thanks ALOT!!

Did you have ANY rust on the crank bearings? If so, you're going to need to replace those as well, unless the rust was minimal. I've done it on a couple of sleds, and the bearings ended up seizing due to the rust causing mini pits in the metal. The pits started to grind, etc. Check the misc parts section of this forum for links to aftermarket parts and phone numbers to a TON of vintage suppliers you could call for help!

The best place I know for older Arctic stuff can be found at:

ebayspecials@hotmail.com

Sorry, I have no phone number for him.

I am sure he will have what you need, likely even new OEM.

The part numbers you mentioned sounds like you have the Kawasaki engine. Those engine parts, with exception to the electrical components, are interchangable from '71 thru '75.
