Torn track

Howdy. I've got a 2002 ZR800 EFI with a stud torn out of the track. It's on the outer edge and I can't put a new stud in because the hole is too big. The hole is about the size of 2 quarters. Is my track screwed or can it be fixed?

Just keep an eye on it, if there is any sign of the hole tearing or getting worse, then replace the track.

It doesn't look like it came out gently if you know what I mean. The hole is right beside the edge of the track. It's not ripped right to the edge but it's close. I've heard that if they're in the middle of the track it's not so bad but if it's near the edge you run the risk of blowing your track off, which I hear is not such a pleasant experience, especially if you're going 100 MPH.
It's too bad because the rest of the track is in great shape and it's got over 4000 miles on it. I probably should just get it replaced. I understand it can do a lot of damage to the machine if it flies off with 192 studs in it. Well 191 now.

Can you put another stud on it with 2 larger washers on each side to keep it tight?

my skidoo mx track somehow ripped on the outside and every time the track went around you heard a "thump" (from the rubber hitting the tunnel). i looked under and didnt see a thing. then after a few more yards, and stopping, the track slid off. nothing to "dangerous" but i learned from that mistake.

If you do a little bit of searching on the web, you'll find there are places that can actually repair tracks. I looked into getting one repaired that had a foot or so of drive lugs missing. After examining the track further, I decided to replace it (it was far worse than the original foot of missing lugs). Anyway, I found a place close to home that does the repairs. It's a process like vulcanizing, and makes it good as new. Something small, like you described, would probably only be $20 or so. Just an idea...

I'll have a look at that. Thanks a lot for the suggestions folks. Normally i wouldn't bother but the track is in such good shape I hate to turf it without trying to fix it first.
