Talking 2000 AC ZR600 Questions

Hey all,

First off, I want to give a warning. This is going to be a long post, so if you don't like to read, turn back now .

I currently own a 2000 Arctic Cat ZR 600 (Carb) that's bone stock. I picked it up last winter, and it is my very first sled. I love the way it rides, but I want to get a little more power out of it (OK, a lot). I went to a website called MCBPerformance.com and took a look at the stuff they had. I want to purchase their MCB Power Package 1 which includes a clutch kit, twin pipes, and a power breather for the carb (here's the link). I was wondering if $780 was a good deal for all that stuff. I was also looking at a set of V-Force Delta III Reeds there for $225.95 (link). Would all this stuff harm my engine or drivetrain in any way? Is ~ $1000 worth it, or can I find cheaper prices elsewhere? I am going to New Hampshire this October for some grass drags (one reason why I want some more power), but I spend most of my riding time in Vermont on the trail system and going into the open fields for some deep powder riding and jumps. I know these upgrades would be much more benificial, but could they be more easily damaged than stock? I plan on installing all these parts by myself. Also, I was thinking about picking up a spare clutch kit. The way I see it, I should get a kit for the drags, and another one for my on/off trail riding. Would that be a wise investment, or should I just get one for all-around performance?

Any and all input is very much appreciated! I apologize again for the long post .

Thanks,
-Dan

well that is funny i know the guy that owns the shop you are assking about he went to school with my dad. that kit does not sound that bad. I would say DO NOT waste your money on the reeds they are minimal power gain for alot of money. The price for that is not that bad with some good name brand parts. good luck. Just remember there is no replacement for displacement

Clutching is the most bang and tuneability for the buck. Pipes are OK, but clutching is the best way. Reeds really wake the sled up as far as how "crisp" the throttle feels.

Thanks for your replies!

I plan on picking up the Power Package and a set of the V Force Reeds (one of my friends has them and says they were very noticable). Smallengineguy, you seem to be the go-to guy for most of the forums. How do I know what clutch kit is best for me? Should I go D&D, since they specialize in Arctic Cat parts, or are there better systems. Also, what lb should I get the spring in?

Thanks for your help!

The answer to that question is; what type of riding do you do, and what range of performance enhancement are you looking for?

You can use the setup chart that is available from the different clutch and kit manufacturers to choose the spring and weights for your sled.

I personally used a Comet Pro-4 with OEM setup. This still is an improvement over the original clutch, as the Pro-4 is for hp over 140. The shifting is much quicker, both up and down. omedt is my personal preference, but many are partial to the D&D setup. Cost is about the same for both.

I never seen a noticable differance on the newer sleds in my experances. i have installed them on several sleds for customers and they told me it was a waste of money. it might make a bigger differance on a older sled ???? or maybe the feed back i was getting was from idiots ????

I installed them on a 2004 Polaris 700, and what a difference they made. It was super "crisp" throttle response, and virtually eliminated the dead spot when you come off idle.

I'd go wit hthe D&D setup for your sled, but it is like RJ said, how do you want to ride?

I plan on riding fairly aggressively . Last year I found myself pinning the throttle every long, open spot on the trail I could find, but for the most part on the trails I was riding chill. Maybe about 40-50 mph on the trails, and hitting about 85-100 on those straightaways. Like I said above, I love getting into an open field with fresh, untouched powder and just tearing it up and hitting those little, natural jumps. MCB Performance says on their site that they can select the right clutch kit for my riding style and weight, so I'll see what they have to say compared to what I hear here.

Any more insight on this would be appreciated!

Thanks,
-Dan
