Me and my grandpa are rebuilding a 2000 Z370. We rebuilt the engine and added electric start. Now comes time to finally start it and there's no spark unless we unplug the stator (bypass key and kill switches). It runs good with the stator unplugged but we have to kill it by taking the plug wires off, which is an issue. All wires and plugs around the handle bars are in check but we can't figure out what is causing this. Any thoughts?
Well the key switch would have to be changed to add the electric start. You would also have to change the voltage regulator to add a rectifier (switching the stator out put from AC to DC). Then you have to change the sub harness to the key switch as well.
The key switch got changed and it had spark right after we changed it, but the engine wasn't ready to start so it wasn't until last night that we tried starting it and realized we had lost spark. The electric start is wired 100% separate from the stator and everything else except the key switch which has a start position.
OK but what I am saying is that there are 2 different systems. Normally open and closed.
Try with the key in the off position and see if you have spark?
Oh alright, gotcha. Will try and see next time I'm near the sled. Would make sense because when I hooked up a connection buzzer to the tss it would buzz in the off position but the key switch would buzz in the on position. I think you may have just saved me a bunch of time because I was gonna start rewiring haha! Will post my outcome when I test it.
May not be but worth the look?
Could just be a wire off too?
