Gas Leak on '98 ZR Tank

My ZR gas tank started leaking at the fitting that is screwed into the tank (main feed to the fuel pump). There wasn't any thread sealant or o-ring on the threads. Does anyone know if there should be a thread sealant here? If so, what type of sealant should be used so it holds up the the gas? Has anyone else seen this type of problem?

regular pipe tape will work. Just keep it away from the carbs so it doesn't get sucked in.
