Question 97 Jag 440 carb boot

I'm attempting to replace the carb boot and I'm having some trouble i was trying to put it in tonight. When comparing the new boot old boot, the throat area is about an inch longer on the new one Even when it is fully seated against the carb I can't seem to get it in without the boot popping out through the airbox hole. There just doesn't seem to be enough clearance. Do these things need to be trimmed? Or did the dealer give me the wrong part? P\N 041530
Any ideas?

thanks

Should be P/N 670-605. Carb to airbox, correct?
