Hey looking at buying a 2000 arctic cat zr700. It has 3000 miles on it and seems to be in great shape. Has 144 studs and otherwise if fairly stock as far as i know. The guy was asking 3800 cad and i talked him down to 3000 cad. Is this a good deal and is there n e thing i should know about these sleds other then apparent bad gas mileage? Thanks alot. Keep in mind that i had a 95 zr580 before so will this be a good upgrade?
I have a 99 ZR 700 thats been long tracked( if you can consider a 136" a long track these days). Bought it one season used, with 600 miles, has 2000+ now & no major problems. The engine is completely stock except for clutching. These engines seem to survive in stock form with proper jetting, but have seen a lot grenade when modified. Its definetly not as smooth as my triple ( thats why I call it ol shakey) but then thats inherent with twins. Yes its fairly thursty, it uses just about as much fuel as the triple & a lot more than the newer power valved engines. I had a cooling hose let go on mine(rubbed thru) & had to rebuild the torque stop (rubber bumper affair that stops the engine from twisting), other than that its been ok. The 700 is not as good an engine as the newer 800/900's, but then for $3000 cdn you would probably be hard pressed to find one of those.
$3180.40 total to get my 99 zr700 across the border, $2300 american cash....twin pipes, studded, brand new track, clutched, everythings been gone through..sweet sled..go for it...mine puts a smile on my face
