zl580 gas problems

my friend has a zl 580 and it is fuel enjected but its a ***** on gas its just as bad as a 1000 triple and the thing wont go over 80 as soon as it hits 80 it seems to rev higher but i heard of moving the clutch forward to make it go faster but when at full throttle the rpms hit 8000 and if i put the clutch forward the rpms will most likely go the the red which is 9-10

help?

has the clutch been serviced or cleaned? It may have a broken spring or worn bushings for the rollers that the weights move against. As far as fuel consumption, at 8000 rpm they all suck........lots of gas.
