No spark, not stator!

My bro's 98 ZL500 wont start. I just put the new/used motor in today and It won't start. Besides from not knowing anything about carbs, I'm not getting spark. The old motor was blown up, so it obviously was getting spark before summer. I checked the stator and it is good. Where else should I check? I was planning on checking the coil, but havnt done it yet, nore do I have the specs. I also havnt played with the key switch or the kill switch yet. On this model can you just unplug both of these to bypass them or do you need to jump somthing? Arn't there two wires I can jump to bypass all the switches? Where should I start?

Is it the same kind of motor as before? Did you put the old stator in the new motor?

The motor that was in it was a 98 ZL500 carbed. The new motor came out of a 98 ZL500 efi. It was JUST the motor. I used the old stator, flywheel, clutches, everything out of the carbed sled.

Well, once I actaully unplug the KILL SWITCH PLUG AND NOT THE DAMN HEATER PLUG it started right up! Scared the **** outta me though when it fired on the first pull and reved way up cause the throttle cables were too tight!!! My first reaction was "HIT THE KILL SWITCH! OH CRAP! IT'S UNPLUGGED!!!!!" now I just gotta do some carb adjusting and I should be set.

LOL

glad nothing bad happened

a friend of mine once had trouble starting his old ski doo tundra.. he had the marvelous idea of starting it with ether he found in the garage....

he open up the airbox and sprayed it in... too much actually.. and he forgot one thing.. the track was on the ground.
when he pulled the cord that thing went off like you wouldn't believe.. it broke the fastest quarter mile for tundra.. before it broke the wooden fence in his back yard too... and broke the hood, windshield, and handlebars.....but it was idling

the worst thing it broke was his dignity.

i missed this by 5 minutes.. but i laughed all day

you could see the tracks on the snow that thing was movin'!!

Sled should always be worked on the with the track up.

Don't know how many times I've put carbs back together and not got the needles set properly and varoooooom. Luckily always had kill switch workinga.

What would a sled do that is already all the way to a wall and one ends up not being able to turn engine off?
