93 wildcat efi won't start
I have a 93 Wildcat 700 efi. I am fairly new to the sled. When i started it, it ran for a bit and died. It wont start now. I thought before i could hear a pump or something kick on when i turn the key on, now i hear nothing. Any answers of what it could be.

check the battery voltage and maybe charge it.

If the battery is too low, it will not run at all . put your charger on it and check if it starts . If so, you may need a new battery. .
When you turn on the key, the fuel pump in the tank pressurises the fuel rail before it will start, weak battery = no start. Or if it starts, it will not run to full speed. (limp mode).
I went through this with mine, after a new battery, no more trouble.

I got a new battery and it started up fine. Started it a few other times in the shed and ran fine. We got a lil snow tonight so i tried it out. I went aboue 1/8 of a mile and it died. Any suggestion as to what it might be.

Check the battery voltage when it dies. If it's under 12V, the charging system isn't working. If it's OK, it may be the fuel pump failing.

If i used a test light on the wires going to the fuel pump when the key is on should that tell if i have juice to the pump. With a test light there was no power. What to try next?

wait,
im not too familiar with EFI on sleds but on cars i am
the fuel pump will not work if the engine is not atleast idling.
it gives builds up pressure and then stops. until the engine is running. in other words.. it works for about 3-5 seconds then stops and waits for the engine to start. then it will go on again and keep being on.
so by checking the fuel pump with the key on and the engine not running you won't see anything. unless your connected BEFORE switching the key on.
get a REAL voltmeter, put in on the terminals of the fuel pump, then put the key on, if you see 12 volts going there and the pump is not turning, chances are it's blown... if you don't get voltage there when the key is turned on, it might be a fuse. or even the ignition switch to some point.
dont use a test light as it may not be precise enough to can kill electronics... the ohms in between the wires of the lamps are too high and can short circuit a sensor or a ECU even.
use a voltmeter as it will have 1M ohms(1 millions ohms) in between the red and black test wire.. so it's practically impossible to do something bad
keep us posted

Just wanted to say thanks for the help i have got so far. So i checked it as stated with a voltmeter when i just turned the key on and there is no power. Does anyone know where to check for fuses or loose wires? Thanks Chris

when you turn the key, i assume you already have the voltmeter connected on the pump terminals right?
if you 'dont see any voltage it might be a fuse.. or even the relay for the pump. you can check if you get 2 other things from the terminals on the pump
1- put the volt meter on contuinity mode ( beeps when you put the 2 cables together) and put one wire from the voltmeter on the negative side of the pump and the other on an engine mount or the engine itself.. like the cylinder might be ok or any other part to Ground on the chassi...the frame or the best would be the negative pole of the battery. if you don't know which connector on the fuel pump is negative side, then do both... one of them should beep.. it will be the negative side.
2- do you hear a *click* when you turn on the ignition? like a relay coming on? you should here it. if you don't then the problem might be , depending on the wiring design, if the ECU gives the juice to the relay and the relay doesn't come then it might be a fuse for the ECU.. since there should NOT be a fuse between the ECU and the relay... should doens not mean WILL NOT...
but there will surely be a fuse between the pump and the relay.
so to sum it up, when you turn it the key on, if you have a blown fuse for the pump, you will hear a *click* fromt the relay of the pump, but there will be no power going TO the pump htus not making it work.
if you do NOT hear a *click* when you put the ignition ON, then it might be the fuse for the ECU.. since IT gives the power to the pump relay.
is that clear enough
sorry i don't know where the fuses are on a wildcat.

no problem,
check the fuses... even if they dont seem to be burned, change the one for the fuel pump.
if you do hear a click then it might be just that.. well either that on the fuel pump..
otherthing you can try, putting the volt meter on ohm mode and check de resistance of the pump...
and finnaly, the last step to confirm if the pump is screwed, plug to wires on the pump and hot wire it to the battery... if you plan to do this, plus one wire on the negative pole and make it hold there with clamps or soemthing.. and withthe other wire in hand make it touche the positive pole of the battery.. but like no more then a second.. just to see if the pump works..
hope this helps.
