02 cross country shock adjuster cable routing

I am trying to find a way for the quickie connector to get by the tank and the aluminum panel pictured below. that is the way it was routed stock. The gas tank doesnt look too fun to loosen and move and that aluminum panel is riveted. I was thinking about just nicely cutting that bracket off that is welded onto the crossbar and sits against the tank and routing the cable by it and then welding it back on. Unless there are any tips that some of you may know to get it by there?

Whoa dont do that... There are 2 nuts on studs that are in the back of the seat compartment. Remove those then the back of the seat will be able to come up. Then you'll be able to pull the seat and the tank back far enough to get the quick release cable out. When you do this, make sure you check your brake light plug under the seat, cause usually when you pull the seat up, it disconnects. Have fun

By the way, are you rebuilding your shock because the rear end of that thing sags? Cause thats what I did, and it didnt solve the problem. Im actually thinking of putting harder springs in mine. Let me know,

Brian
