well i found the fuse from the battery to the engine, that is blown. THis is why i did not have any electric start right ? But now my display lights and headlight is out. Would this be the voltage regulator, or are the lights themselves just blown.

If the batttery is hooked up backwards it will blow this fuse, check the connections and replace the fuse. You should then have lights.

If the regulator is bad, it could allow too much voltage to the lights, which would fry the bulbs. Take a meter to it while it is running.

Also, if it has a battery, it will have a rectifier (changes AC to 12V DC so it charges the battery) instead of a simple regulator.
