I've ridden as a passenger on a one up sled before. Very uncomfortable, very unsafe. If you absolutely need a ride somewhere by sled and there's only a one up machine available, fine, but if you're planning on riding 2 up, then get a sled that's meant for it. 2 ups are warmer, safer, and more comfortable for the passenger. 2 ups aren't necesarily slow, and they usually have long tracks so going off trail is going to ok. Powder riding with a passenger is never as easy or enjoyable as when you're on your own just because it depends so much on weight distribution.

As far as power, any machine can take two people. As far as suspension, you will want to set it stiffer to compensate for the extra weight.
