well,
it all depends...too much is like not enough.....there a balance to achieve here,
in my situation, i am not willing to ( not that i couldn't financially, i can) to buy a NEW sled...
like if you use the sled ALOT, like i mean all the time.. yes it's a good buy and your are not wasting your money. i would be wasting my money as i, doin't have enough TIME to use it.. nor the places to go that much, i don't go the bars with a sled much... so that why im keeping my old cat.... another part of the equation is, like your neibhor is doing, modding an old sled... well, to that , again it all dpednds on what your are doing.. if the body is clean and he find himself a twin 700 with the carbs and all thats needed, then yes, it can be a good investment as he will be able to follow ALOt of the newer sleds for a fraction of the price... but putting a clutch kit on a 340? now THATS a wast of money.
another example, altough i do not have more summertime than any of you ( south states dont count) i love motorcycle riding, THAT i do alot , i go to work , with it, i go to bars with it, eating chiken wings and a good corona at 90 degrees outside, hell, that makes my week
so THAT for me, to invest 7K on a bike and is well worth it.
so your neibhor is , well , out of balance, if he starts to mod the sled to achive nothing more than 5 MPH and little better handling, he is wasting his money and should buy a more powerful sled instead.. like a XCR 600 from the same years... he would have suspenstion, and more power.
putting a clutch kit on a 340? geez..
