I have a high pitch squeal on occassion. It sounds like it is coming from the clutch side of the engine compartment. It doesn't do it a lot but some times it does it. I am thinking maybe the seal behind the primary clutch on the engine. Or I am thinking it is just the belt rubbing on the primary clutch. It comes and goes, but the sled runs great. I mean this thing just pulls out of the hole and runs hard. It is a beast.
Oh and the plugs look good so I don't think it is running lean from a bad engine seal.
Another thing is sometimes I am getting a bad chatter/vibration. I checked the chain and it seemed loose and I was able to turn the tension bolt for the chain in quite a ways in. If I need to swap the chain out I can because I have another set of sprokets and chain.
It usually happens when I am on the throttle hard at about 8500 rpms. I am thinking the chain needs replaced. Which I will drain the chain case and inspect the chain and sprockets.
Well now my Chain Case is puking oil out. So I am gonna have to remove the chaincase cover and look at what is going in there. I am thinking new chain and sprockets and bearings.
I think the chaincase leak is fixed. I took it all apart and inspected everything. Looked good. I then adjusted the chain to proper tension 3/8-1/4 inch play. I then put the cover back on and filled the case with fluid and took it for a ride.
I found the leak to becoming from right above the tension bolt. Looks like a breather hole is there.
What model/year machine do you have? If there is no external adjuster (cam or bolt) then your adjustment is made via washers (shims) inside the driven betwen the moveable and fix sheaves. Adding increases the sheave opening and removing decreases. You always want to have at least 1 washer to prevent the sheave faces from making contact.
Well I rode it all day today and not one squeal came from under the hood. I will inspect the belt for excessive wear tomorrow. Just to be sure I have not wore it down to much.
I think my other problem is a secondary clutch breaking loose when I hit 8500 rpms.
