:dunno:i have owned a 1991 phazer 2 for a coupole years now...i got a good deal on a almost brand new camoplast cross country track with 1.50" lugs. I know im gonna have to gear it down but im not sure how much? any info. would be great
ride the sled first, this will dictate a gear change.if the gearing is stock, you may need to change the ratio.as simple as this may seem, keep notes.they come in handy
^ x2. no way that track will fit, without trimming about 5/16 off, or dropping to 7 tooth drivers. careful on your gear selection. some changes in gearing require different length chains. double check gear combos once you know your existing chain length.
yeah i went to my friends sled repair shop to atleast put the track on and sure s**t the 1.50" didnt fit so the guy traded me straight up for a brand new polaris 1.25" which fit. but now i was told buy another guy to drop one tooth on the top and one on the bottom? so im not sure which route to take? or even wear to find some what cheap gears?
drop one on the top and add one to the bottom, or just do one or the other, not both. careful here as certain gear combos take different chain lengths. been awhile since the pz days, are the gears gears, or do they look more like a sprocket? may have some left overs that fit. whats the gear ratio now? need a tooth count on upper and lower.
what model polaris track i am interested in doing the same swap! i wonder if this will do my 91 phazer if it will also work on my 88 enticer 340ltr if i do a lift kit at the back 3"
got a pt# on it? polaris for what model? i'm really interested in what you are doing and how it will perform as 2 of my sleds are the same for this mod! 88 enticer and 91 phazer!
cant seem to locate any of those gears. look at any yamaha on line parts suppliers microfisches and check out the phazer st model. these were the factory longtracks. see what the std gears were for a reference.
yeah i was wondering if long tack gears would work? their probably what i need! ill have to check those sites out. right now my sled is on the trailer but ill try to take a look this weekend and find out the track info for u!
they are the same gears, it just give you an idea of what ratio to shoot for. pat attention to chain length when choosing gear ratios, some require different lengths.
like i said, listen too the old man earlier.i wouln't drop a tooth on the top and bottom both.i would rather drop 2 teeth on the top and leave the bottom alone.if you want to keep track speed up,"do not" drop any teeth on the bottom sprocket.if you drop teeth on the bottom, you will lose mechanical advantage.
well after what seemed like months of searching i found a new gear straight from yahmaha. the top sproket in my chain case has 17 tooth. For the 1991 phazer 2 yamaha only made a sproket that went one tooth down to a 16. This was the only place i could find that even had such a thing so i bought it even though it ran me nearly $70!!!! so it should b in on thuesday so if everything goes good i should be taking my sled for its first rip by next weekend! i just hope one tooth will be good enough?
you'll need to get a new chain. stock one wont fit if you're dropping a tooth on the top and not adding one to the bottom. need to get a chain with 1 less link.
that would really depend how many teeth the bottom sprocket has. there are alot of variations for gears based on chain length. and yamaha chains change in 2 link increments. you would have a very hard time finding one with one link less. confirm teeth on the bottom gear and i will give you the proper chain length.
i could check the gear chart in my manual for what bottom gears you can run with a 16 top gear and what length chain. but it's out in the shop right now. can post tomorrow if it'd be any help. if he's running the stock lower gear im pretty sure its a 29. i cant remember the stock chain length at the moment. somewhere in the low to mid 60's.
sounds good!...the gear still hasnt came in yet and we keep getting snow so i cant wait!
