My first sled, my friends 2nd.
Hey everyone, I am not new to 'powertoys' but this will be my first sled. My friend used to have a Yamaha Bravo before he blew the motor, and he was probably ~15 when that happened.
I am pretty darn mechanically inclined, learning more every day.
I just bought a 1982 Yamaha XJ650 inline 4 cylinder motorcyle (Maxim)
Since then, done a valve clearance adjustment, valve cover gasket, clean, repaired, replaced parts inside all 4 carbs, tuned the carbs on the bike, sync'd them together, etc.
Have done lots of work on older things, like a 74 Yamaha DT360 2 stroke dual sport bike, a 1980's Yamaha chappy moped, and I also owned an 03 Kodiak 450 ATV, a 03 Yamaha Warrior 350, and now have a Grizzly 450 4x4 ATV.
My friend's history is very similar to mine, but less into the mechanical repair history.
So, to the sleds.
He picked up a trailer, with TWO sleds... for $400.
Next day, turned around and sold the trailer for $300.
That's right, two sleds, $100 total...
But what shape are they in?
Well, cosmetics are in need of help, but usable.
BOTH SLEDS FIRED UP, FIRST PULL.
Are you kidding me? $100?
Anyway, the sleds are:
1986 Ski Doo 377 Safari
1991 Ski Doo Formula Plus (I believe a 521cc?)
Now, the pull cord on the Formula broke today. Son of a...
It only ran once, was trying to get it going again, and cord snapped.
The Safari fires up first pull every time.
I am sure they BOTH needs the carbs gone through.
So I am wondering... who can point me to a site detailing the technical specs on both sleds? HP, weight, track length etc...
Also - how hard is it to a) change a track yourself b) change a 'slider'
Slider, if not the proper term, is what my friend described as the plastic piece the track rolls on?
Lots to learn about sleds, driven them 3 times maybe 4 in my life.
Anyway, thanks for the site! I enjoy forums a lot, especially for my bike.
Can see this being a great resource!
