Hellow, all. I have about 250 Evinrude and Johnson Snowmobiles, and, I was just wondering if there are any other fans or collectors of these machines, out there? I collect them, and keep them, I don't sell them. I have been doing this, since I was little. My first machine was a 1968 Evinrude Skeeter, that was bought brand new, from my dad, I rode that thing, it seems like forever. I just didn't like the fact that it didn't have electric start, or reverse, or a wide track, on it. But, never the less, I still have it, and, it still runs, yet, today. The first machine I bought was a 1968 Johnson Skee-Horse Wide Trac 20. I paid $ 20.00 for it!!! Really!!!. The front shaft that pulls the track, with the aluminum wheels, was broken, but it did run well. It had electric start, wide trac, reverse, on it. So, I did some research, and found out that the 1968 models had a hollow shaft, while, starting in 1970, this shaft was solid. So, I took the wheels from the old shaft, and replaced them with the ones that were on the 1970. Then I reinstalled the shaft in the 1968, and, everything fit prorerly. And, the shaft never broke, again. There was a O.M.C dealer ot too far from me,m and I asked him about the hollow shafts, and, he told me that they had trouble with them, espically, on the wide Trac models. Wider track, put more pressure on the shaft, making it easier to break. So, in late 1969, they decided to change to the solid shaft, instead. Some of my other machines include a 1967 Evinrude Skeeter, bought brand new, from my uncle. Most all the other machines came from private owners. My newest machine is a 1976 Evinrude Skimmer 440S. I would like to hear from any other O.M.C snowmobile owners. Thank you.
