Mine would do about 105 mph on the lake. Not bad for a single-piped 700. The best thing about those sleds was the exhaust note. That was the last year before Polaris went to the big, "suitcase" mufflers and those '99 700s had this awesome, wailing exhaust note.
Id say that the '97-'00 Domestic twins were some of the best-sounding sleds Polaris has ever made. The only thing better is a triple, you cant beat the sound of a triple.
I sold my '99 700 XC to my neibor and a few years after that he bought a 440 XCR for his son. Anywho, one day the kid wanted to go riding but the dad didnt, she he offered to let me go riding win his son and told me I coul ride the 700 XC.
That whole day I thought, "Man, was this sled always this loud?!?!"
