Mammoth has hundreds of miles of groomed trails and 1,000 of acres of open space to ride.

Mammoth is a ski town and nothing else. Most people will frown when you say snowmobile. Too expensive for the fishermen and hikers in summer.

Don't know how much you want to spend for lodging. We rent a Condo and it holds 10 people and goes for $300 a day. This is suppose to be a cheap price. A hour to the north of Mammoth is June Lake and is a family atmosphere ... much cheaper at simiar elevation (7000) and access to the same sled trail system. To the south more than a hour is BISHOP ... 4000 elevation no snow or trails and it is where the "poor" people live. There is a bus going back and forth from Mammoth to Bishop ONCE a day .. cost $5.00 and a room in Bishop is $60 and the same room cost $150 in Mammoth.

There are two dealers in Mammoth Polaris and Arctic Cat. They are NOT well stocked. The next closest dealer is a hundred miles away.

If you have a towing vehicle you can rent an older water cooled sled with trailer for 150 - 300 a day. Sometimes the dealers have loaners or rentals. Local sled rental agencies for TOURING require you to stay on trail and go under 25 MPH plus all sleds are air cooled.

Definitely need to hook up with the local club.

Mammoth is part of the California Nevada Snowmobile Association. California Nevada Snowmobile Association
Mammoth Lakes Snowmobile Club is the local club and Bill the locksmith is the man you want to get to know. 760-934-6157 cbsauser@earthlink.net
I know he is an off trail guy and rides on Sunday. They are always planning group trips because when it snows there it dumps and a friend or two really helps in 3 feet of powder.

A local will take you places you would never find on your own.
