9 people killed in CO by avalanches already and 12 in Washington.
Some of these people had beacons but didn't know how to use them...If you buy one actually take the training classes!!! Talk to your local search and rescue. They will teach you all of it along with CPR and other things you may need along the way for little to no cost.
