Any time you put money into something - be it a car, sled, bike, etc... don't expect to be able to get back what you put in. The best you can expect is to get the going rate for that item in your area.
My brother had several thousand into a 196? Nova. Never got much more than what the car was worth without the built engine. That's just the way things go.
