When I used mine it was in the upper 20's to lower 30's for temps, so I kept getting some slush spatter from time to time. I did use it once when it was a little colder and I was drift busting with lots of snow dust. When I rode in extreme cold, -5 or lower, the snow dust was at a minimum, so it stayed in my pocket. So to answer your question I realy don't know if it stays soft.
