Question high idle

Hello everyone,
I bought a 88 wildcat 650 about 4 months back. it started up fine for the PO when i bought it. I added some fuel stabilizer while it sat for about 2 months before riding season. first attempt at starting ended up flooding bad. replaced plugs still nothing. the only way i've gotten it to fire up is by taking carb caps off and spraying some starting fluid in the carb, replacing caps and pulling. it fires up but runs at a really high rpm and smokes. i've adjusted throttle cable and choke cables but no different in idle. no difference if i work the throttle while it screams. is something not working right in carb? sounded fine before. any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
