Yep the DD makes a whirring sound, it's the sound of the planetary gears, nothing major. If you're really worried about it check the DD to make sure it's topped up with fluid or have someone (or yourself) change the fluid out to make sure there's no water in there. It will, when working perfectly fine, make a new noise that a normal chain driven sled won't make.
