I would start by making sure you have the right belt. It sounds too tight. I know everyone hates to pay dealers price but i might buy one from the dealer that way you know it the belt that the machine is called for then go from there.

I had bought a belt from dennis kirk to save some cash and when i got it i compared it to my polaris belt and it turned out to be 1/2inch to short. I buy nothing but polaris belts now
