Don't stitch it up!! That looks like garbage.
Repair it from the back using a fiberglass repair kit. They are available all over the place (Wally World, KMart, auto parts store, etc). From the back, rough up the area about 2" either side of the crack, apply the resin soaked f'glass cloth/matt across the crack. Work out any air bubbles & repeat until you have about 4-5 layers. Let it cure o'night & it should look as good as new!
(hint - cover crack on top side with masking tape so any resin will not work it's way onto the painted surface)
