Well, the North Shore is a bust for decent riding, we went up to Silver Bay on Monday, the 20th, had to ride through mud from the hotel parking lot and lots of spots in town to get to the woods, then found the trails near town so melted and iced over there was almost nothing for the slides and heat exchangers, both sleds started to run hot, and found some guys that had tried going farther out, and had to stop every mile or so and kick snow on the tracks to cool them off, one guy even melted his slides to his track. We went back to the hotel, cleaned up the sleds, and spent the rest of the day at the hotel planning other ways to find snow. The next day, we took off early, trailered the sleds into the woods to a trail head, seemed ok, but only a few miles down the packed, icy trails, and the sleds were again running hot from lack of loose snow, and my son looked at me and said, " Lets just go home, this sucks" That pretty muched summed it up, and we were both looking forward to this trip for so long, last year it was perfect riding, what a difference a year makes !! Maybe going farther north would have been the ticket, but we had limited time and money for extending our trip, so we just wrapped it up for the season, barely got enough ride time this year to burn up a couple tanks of gas, what a poor riding season !! Central Minnesota just isn't getting the snow it used to, getting real frustrated over the last couple of years with only a few good riding weekends the whole winter.
